丁香成人社区 Past President Dianne Pinderhughes will participate in the APSA Award Reception on 4 September to present the 2024 APSA-丁香成人社区 Theodore J. Lowi First Book Award to Rochelle Terman for her first book, titled , published by Princeton University Press in 2023.

Chaired by IPSR Co-Editors Daniel Stockemer (University of Ottawa) and Annika M. Hinze (Fordham University), the two 丁香成人社区 panels will address the phenomenon of democratic backsliding and its consequences for academic freedom from a multiplicity of perspectives.

Democratic Backsliding and Academic Freedom I: A Macro-Perspective
5 September, 14:00 to 15:30

The first 丁香成人社区 panel, Democratic Backsliding and Academic Freedom I: A Macro-Perspective, will be held on 5 September from 14:00 to 15:30. Chaired by Daniel Stockemer (University of Ottawa), the panel will address the global decline in democratic freedoms and its impact on academic freedom, from a macro-level perspective. The session will feature several distinguished speakers, including the Honorable Michael Ignatieff (former member of the Canadian Parliament and Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada), Pippa Norris (University of Sydney), Staffan I. Lindberg (V-Dem Institute at the University of Gothenburg), Lars Lott (Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg), and Marianne Kneuer (丁香成人社区 Past President, TU Dresden). The discussant for the session will be Annika M. Hinze (Fordham University).

Democratic Backsliding and Academic Freedom II: Case Studies

The second 丁香成人社区 panel, Democratic Backsliding and Academic Freedom II: Case Studies, will explore specific case studies from various countries, focusing on the relationship between democratic backsliding and academic freedom. The session will be chaired by Annika M. Hinze (Fordham University) with Daniel Stockemer (University of Ottawa) serving as the discussant. The speakers will include Thomas Keck (Syracuse University), Janika Spannagel (Freie Universit盲t Berlin), Ayla Gol (York St John University), and Michelle Vieira Fernandez (University of Bras铆lia).

Panels Organized by 丁香成人社区鈥檚 Research Committee
丁香成人社区 will also organize three panels through its Research Committees. On 6 September, the RC01-Concepts and Methods panel, , will bring together theoretical and empirical papers that address and use qualitative methods, mostly related to the analysis of discourse, language, and speech. On 7 September, the RC06-Political Sociology panel, , will address the methodological complexities in comparative historical research. Finally, on 7 September, the RC36-Political Power panel, , will examine the current challenges facing democracies worldwide, including the rise of nativist and authoritarian movements.
