Guylaine Beaudry, the Trenholme Dean of Libraries at McGill University, will be a guest speaker at the Open Access Publishing: A New Era in Scholarly Communication Conference. Dr. Beaudry will take the spotlight on 14 September 2022 for the Closing Remarks address with her presentation entitled “The Transition Toward Open Access: A Librarian’s Perspective.”&�Բ�����;

“There is no university without a library. Libraries have a central supporting role for learning and knowledge creation. Open Access (OA) is one of the most significant changes in the scholarly communication system since the emergence of digital technologies. OA is seen by many as what will make the dream of removing barriers to accessing scholarly works come true. Librarians have responded in many ways to the call to action towards a more fair and equitable scholarly communication system, among others: developing new methods of storing and providing access to information, creating publishing services for journals and scholarly books, or negotiating licenses with commercial publishers to provide better access to research outputs. Still, depending on the many situations and contexts, the conditions under which OA can become a reality vary considerably. There is no one simple strategy to implement OA for a journal or for a researcher’s published works.”

Guylaine Beaudry is the Trenholme Dean of Libraries at McGill University. She was previously Vice-Provost, Digital Strategy and University Librarian at Concordia University (Montreal) where she led the major renovation of the Webster Library and the university-wide digital strategy. She was before the Executive Director of Érudit (), a publishing platform for humanities and social sciences scholarly books and journals. She wrote many publications on scholarly publishing, notably, Le nouveau monde numérique et les revues scientifiques (Les Presses de l’Université de �ѴDzԳٰ�é���� (PUM) and La Découverte, Paris, France), that was translated and published by University of Calgary Press (Scholarly Journals in the New Digital World). A fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, she holds a doctorate in history of the book from École pratique des hautes études (Paris).
